The horns will blow and the gates will open at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012. The 66th running of the Blockhouse Steeplechase is scheduled to take place at The Tryon Riding and Hunt Club. Sanctioned by The National Steeplechase Association, this event has become one of the premier sporting events in the Carolina's, offering spectators the opportunity to experience live horse racing at its finest.

Join After 5 Express in the social event of the season! You don’t have to be a “horse person” to enjoy all that the Steeplechase has to offer. Highlights include: Live music, fabulous Southern cuisine
and of course horse racing, combine to make this gala party an essential element in the total experience.

The gates open at 10 a.m. so we will leave Hendersonville at 9:30 a.m to arrive early. Our total package is all inclusive of everything from a toast of Prosecco with Grapefruit juice at our pick up spot to transitioning to our signature cocktail of "Vanilla Infused Bourbon Mint Julips" upon arrival, a spread of "horse" d'oeuvres and a tribute to the Old South with traditional favorites served throughout the day.

The skinny on the Steeplechase

Steeplechases originated in 18th century England - they were informal horse races put together by local gentry with the goal being to navigate cross-country from one town to another using church steeples as landmarks.

What to Wear:

Large brimmed and floral filled hats, seer-sucker shorts and suits, tails are fine and anything pink –yes, for men too.

What to Bring:

Sunscreen, several blankets for prone lounging or fancy lawn chairs
